The month of (self) Love!
With Valentines day fast approaching, you may feel overwhelmed with over the top displays of love crowding shops shelves and TV advertisements. Like many, you may find the red hearts, stuffed animals and love themed cards quite cheesy and sure, Valentines day may be a commercial ploy but there’s no denying that it serves as a reminder for us to slow down and appreciate the one’s we love.
A day centred around love gives us a chance to embrace those butterflies, to receive love but most importantly, to give love, not only to others, but to yourself as well. This February we challenge you to invest in yourself, to make time for yourself and to focus on all things self-care.
The New Buzz Phrase: Self-Care
Self-care seems to be the new buzz phrase right now, with people finally realising that you cannot serve from an empty cup. We are so easily able to care for and nurture others, yet we struggle to extend the same kindness to ourselves. Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with yourself and create feelings of positivity which will extend to others. It is important that we take care of our minds as much as our bodies. Self-care is not only necessary for your physical health but also for your mental health as well.
If you do not take a break and practice self-care, you stand the risk of depleting your emotional energy which can lead to burnout.
Think about it; if you are physically ill, you seek the advice of a doctor and take medication to cure your physical ailment. The same kind of attention should be given to your mental health as well. After all, your physical health and mental health are connected, too much stress can aversively affect your health. Dis-ease in the mind can cause disease in the body.
Small Steps
Luckily, there are small steps we can take everyday to practice self-care.
These don’t even have to take up a lot of time, it can be the simple act of taking a few minutes each day to sit and take some conscious breathes. Or treating yourself as you would a small child; say kind words to yourself, feed yourself good and nourishing food and get to bed at a decent hour.
You are worthy of love and care.
This month we are going to focus on different ways to include self-care into your daily life! Take a look at some of the topics we will be covering:
- Paying attention to what you consume
- Practicing positive self-talk
- Consciously making time each day to do something you love
- Getting enough sleep
- Exercise
Our aim over the next month is to encourage you to practice daily self-love and self-care in order to feel renewed, healthy and motivated.
