The youth of today are the future of tomorrow
The world is evolving and changing faster than ever and the opportunities our youth are faced with are quite different to the past. Technology has changed access to information both changing our educational sector but also the social aspect with us sharing copious amounts of information amongst each other every day. In this changing world it is key that we make the right changes, learning from the past and creating a future where there is equal opportunity and a real of understanding of our equality as humans. We all have great potential to learn and progress and influence those around us, so let us look at how we at Nature’s Relief think we can use that to our greatest advantage.
Share love not hate
Today’s youth are incredible activists for spreading the message of equality and justice for all. They will not tolerate hate speech or sit back and allow harmful comments to be made. Unfortunately hate speech and mean comments seem to dominate the internet these days but there is a way to spread love, not hate, online. There is a lot of misguided hurtful words on the internet and it is better to respond in an informative and positive way to educate rather than incite more hate. Share positivity and focus on uplifting others rather than bringing them down. Most importantly, be kind to one another. As the great Nelson Mandela said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.’
Be open to change and learn how to embrace it
The current youth of South Africa are being called the pioneers of change. They are taking charge with ideas and strategies to make the future of our country a bright one. Young South Africans are not afraid to voice their opinions, to stand for justice and to demand equality and equity for all. It is this enlightening approach that will carry us forward as a country.
Take time off your phone
With the growth of social media, today’s youth are experiencing an information overload that previous generations have not had to deal with. Social media can be used in a positive way for inspiration and to express creativity, but this anonymous platform can also be harmful. A survey conducted by the royal society for public health amongst 14-24-year olds found that sites such as snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all led to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness. There is a growing trend of taking a social media detox due to an increase in anxiety. A detox can give you clarity and the amount of mental energy you give your phone could be put to better use.
Use the Information age to your advantage by learning how to learn and adapt and access credible information
There is a wealth of information available through advances in technology and students are now able to take ownership of their learning. As the amount of information available to us increases it is important for us to verify that information as a credible source. We want to arm ourselves with the correct information to further our learning.
Youth have the potential to take the world to the next level, but we need to learn from the mistakes of the past.
