New Year, New (Sustainable) Goals!

It can be so tempting, as a new year approaches, to go into it guns blazing with your resolutions and plans for the year ahead. At the end of each year, fantasise about the way that our year could be better. Then, we create New Resolutions that mark the change that you want to create in your life. Especially after a year (or two) that has been unsettling.

As wonderful as this can be, it can sometimes become quite overwhelming as the year progresses, to have so much pressure on yourself to tick things off a list and achieve everything you intended to. This is why, we want to talk about creating smaller, sustainable goals rather than life-changing resolutions.

What’s the biggie?

Ever since the Pandemic (maybe even before that) we have been carrying a variety of emotions around with us – and a lot of it. When you create life-changing resolutions that are so big and don’t get ticked off the list, it can become disappointing and make you feel like you have failed.

Moving into 2022, we want you to make this the year that you are kind to you! So, we are here to help you to make sustainable goals with steps to help you to achieve them.

Creating Sustainable Steps

We’ve put some thought into the best way to set Resolutions you can actually stick to and feel good about:

Choose a few, small resolutions: Taking on too much all at once can be daunting. It can be particularly difficult because establishing new behavioral patterns takes time and sustained effort. Focusing yourself on one specific goal makes keeping a resolution much more achievable. Look at your morning routine and see how you can alter it slightly to be more beneficial to you. Add in supplements or vitamins that might help you with focus, bodily functions or anxiety (we suggest things like our Mental Boosting Nootropic Drops, Moringa Tablets or Probiotics).

Make your goals detailed: By knowing exactly what you want to accomplish and the difficulties you might face, you’ll be better prepared to stick to your resolution and overcome anything that might sidetrack you.

Remember it’s a slow process to create sustainable change: It may take longer than you would like to achieve your goals, but remember that this is not a race to the finish. Once you have made the commitment to changing a behavior, it may be something that you continue to work on for the rest of your life.

Get friends on board: You’ve probably heard this advice a million times, but that is because the buddy system actually works. Having a solid support system can help you stay motivated and accountable. Sign up for a gym contract that involves partner workouts or classes (we suggest Reset Collective in Umhlanga or Online!), so you have to meet someone and stick to your commitments.

Try and keep some to yourself – it’s important!

Creating goals is exciting and allows you to have something to look forward to. It also can create a sense of pride as you share all the new things that you are striving to achieve. We know, we know, the intention can also be for them to hold you accountable for achieving them. However, the satisfaction of sharing those goals can create a false sense of satisfaction, making it counterproductive toward completing them.

By keeping these goals to yourself, you can achieve three things. in itself.

  1. You reduce the pressure on your shoulders to achieve the goals in the timeframe that you set in an excitable state.
  2. You create a deeper sense of pride when achieving them and sharing everything that you accomplish for yourself – as you accomplish them with your friends and family.
  3. It helps you to create goals that are important for you without trying to please others.
Go get ’em!

Hopefully these top tips make a difference as you approach the end of the year and start 2022 on the front foot!
